Some webcreation tools used by libraries.

Wix.com Is a HTML5 website builder, which is used by about 37 million sites. It is a free to use service, but if you pay you get added bonuses. It is easy to use because, you dont need to know how to code as it uses predesigned templates. It is an online cloud hosted service that gets it's money through premium upgrades which gets you no ads, more bandwidth, more templates ect. They also offer apps and other things that add flair to their service.

Hayden high school library Is an example of the basic, free version of Wix webcreation service.

Weebly.com Is similar to Wix as they are both drag and drop, easy to use web based website builders. Weebly offers a site that is really easy to access and set up, you can set one up with a facebook account!. It is a widget based builder, similar to blogger, and Weebly will host your site or you can buy your own domain. The pricing is really low, the basic package is free and the highest package is only 8 dollars a month. You can set up a shop on your website which links to your pay pal if needed. Unlike Wix, Weebly offers unlimited storage for your site.

Goodlettsville Middle School Is an example of a Weebly site. It looks professional.

Dreamweaver Is a dipole of Weebly and Wix because you need to buy the package, which can be quite expensive at around $150. It is also very very customisable, if you are able to code. You should be proficiant at coding when using this package otherwise you could get stuck. It offers a far greater control on every aspect of your website. You need to obtain a webhosting service or your own server for the site to be live. Ultimatly Dreamweaver is the best if you have the knowledge and know how to use it to its fullest.

I couldn't find a library site for an example but a great many sites out there use dreamweaver, such as our own WebCT.

Blogs, The new library website?

Doubtful, But! A blog would be pretty useful to a library as an alternative to a proper website. Why? Because they are free! They are also really simple to use, update and are quick to publish blogs. They are also easily accessed by anyone and easily accessed to update anywhere. Because they are webased they have their own customer service department so you dont have to worry about fixing problems that come up.

Some of the downsides of using a blog as a website is that it is presented in a very limited way know as a "feed". They also lack alot of the freedom an actual website offers. Blogs are more suited to puting out messages and information on thing like events, rather than having a whole organisations information for people to find.

Free software platforms, The good and the bad.

The Good:
They are free.
They usually come with a load of tutorials.
They are usually well supported by a large community.
Your website is as good as the amount of effort and time you put into it.

The Bad:
It can be hard to grasp the ins and outs of the software.
It might not be as fleshed out as paid software.
It might have bugs in the program.
No customer service.

- Maps of the surrounding areas to the librarys, Places for public transport, ect.
- A feature for new books, movies and CDs the library has gotten.
- An FAQ section.
- Contact details which include opening times.
